Jurys Bristol Hotel
Prince Street, Bristol, UK, BS1 4QF Tel: (+44 117) 923 0333 Fax: (+44 117) 923 0300
Jurys is set in a fantastic location down by the harbourside right in the heart of Bristol. It is about ten minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station. The waterside location gives easy access to clubs and bars as well as the Arnolifini and Watershed which are both arthouse cinemas and exhibition spaces. For location it is one of the best in Bristol right in the centre near many main offices and with views over the harbour. The hotel is also right beside Queen’s square a pleasant green area which often hosts various fairs and events. The hotel has a mix of standard, executive and suite rooms and an onsite restaurant. The service from staff is noticably excellent. One downside is that the central location means noise can sometimes be heard from partygoers at the nearby clubs. If this is going to be worry it would be a good idea to ask for a room on a higher floor. Click here to book on the Jurys website including lowest internet price promise.

There are two Marriot hotels and this one has by far the best location. It is located in the centre of town beside the cathedral and college green and a minute from the harbour. From Bristol Temple Meads train station it would be about a twenty minute walk. The hotel has a fitness centre including swimming pool and is made up of 226 rooms and 16 suites. It houses a well thought of restaurant and champagne bar. Part of the beauty of the hotel is that it has kept the Victorian charm of the original building, and the stunning lobby area, but has refurbished extensively to be modern quality hotel. It isn’t one of the new build identikit hotels that are dotted everywhere but it does have all modern conveniences. This hotel lives up to it’s four star rating and goes a bit beyond although there are far cheaper options around. Great for business travellers or for a romantic weekend getaway.
Marriot Bristol City Centre
2 Lower Castle Street, Old Market Bristol, BS1 3AD United Kingdom Phone: 44 117 9294281
This is the less well know of the Marriots and in pretty much all ways it is the slightly stunted sibling to the ever popular Marriot Royal hotel beside college green. Never the less it is a decent business hotel situated 5 minutes walk from the centre of town. It’s location is a bit unfortunate. Just on the wrong side of the edge of the centre of Bristol. Walk five minutes one way and you are in the lovely harbourside, but walk the wrong way toward the Old Market side of Bristol and you’ll find yourself surrounded by massage parlours and slightly dodgy looking characters. The hotel itself can accommodate 600 guest and includes high-speed internet access, an indoor swimming pool, health club and 2 restaurants. Great for a business stay but there are better options for a romantic weekend away.
City Inn
City Inn Bristol, Temple Way, Bristol, BS1 6BF - tel: +44 (0)117 925 1001
The City Inn is a smart hotel, 3 minutes walk from Temple Meads train station with a locallyrespected restaurant and well appointed rooms including CD player. The location is great for train travellers. If you catch the train from London Paddington you will get in to Bristol Temple Meads train station and it is short walk from there. Equally the airport bus stops at Temple Meads train station so it is well served for travellers who want to get public transport from Bristol airport.City Inn has 167 rooms has a lounge bar, serves award winning food in the City Cafe restaurant and has a pleasant terrace overlooking Temple Gardens. The overlight feel of the hotel is minimalist and modern with clean, bright spaces. It is a pleasant place to stay and was voted one of the top 5 best UK hotels by the Guardian/Observer Travel awards 2004.
Mercure Brigstow Bristol
Welsh Back 5-7 BS1 4SP BRISTOL
The Mercure hotel, formerly known as Brigstow, has a great postion beside the harbour tuckedaway behind Queen’s Square and right beside some great quality restaurants. It’s lounge has really beautiful view on to the water. Although it isn’t positioned on the finest stretch of water more a quiet little backstreet packed with great restaurants and strolling families in the daytime. It is a 4 star hotel a ten minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station. It has 116 ensuite rooms some with river views and balcony. Gym use is included in the price in the nearby Welshback gym. The Mercure never seems to be advertised heavily in Bristol. For a pleasant weekend at a decent price this is the one I’d choose. It is near all the nightlife but tucked away from the noise. It has great access to restaurants and is close to all the shopping.
Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa
Redcliffe Hill BS1 6SQ Bristol Tel : (+44)117/9689900 - Fax : (+44)117/9689866
This is a very recently opened hotel. It is four star and a bout ten minutes walk away fromBristol Temple Meads train station. It has 275 en suite rooms , a restaurant and bar and a fitness suite, spa and pool. Wireless internet access is also available. The staff at this hotel have a reputation for being friendly and professional. The rooms boast large bathrooms with showers and roll-top baths. one of the added bonuses of this hotel is that breakfast is served till 11 leaving time for a nice lie-in.I think the advantage of this hotel over others is that it is brand new, is positioned as a 4 star but is also competing heavily on price. The new build means that the facilities are not dated, although the do lack period charm, and not in need of refurbishment. Some people have noted that the hotel looks very unpromising from the outside but once inside everyone I have spoken to has been pleasantly suprised.
Express By Holiday Inn Bristol City Centre
| BRISTOL CITY CENTRE SOUTH END, TEMPLE GATE HOUSE BRISTOL, BS1 6PL ENGLAND Hotel Front Desk: 44-0870-7202293 | Hotel Fax: 44-0870-7202294 |
The Holiday Inn Bristol City Centre is directly opposite Temple Meads train station. TempleMeads is the main Bristol train station. If you are travelling from London it will take about one and a half hours from Paddington. The airport bus also stops at Temple Meads train station so if you are flying in to Bristol Airport this hotel is easy and cheap to get to.The hotel is beside the temple gate part of town which includes offices for companies such as *****. The area immediately surrounding the hotel seems at first glance a little grubby but to walk in to the centre of town from the hotel takes about five minutes. In the evening you could easily walk down to the bars at the harbourside for instance. They charge 3 pounds a day for parking. Another good reason to get the train. Room quality is typical Holiday Inn Express. Basic but comfortable. Don’t expect luxury but you’ll usually get a good price and the location is great for train travellers.
