Bar Review: The Elbow Rooms, Bristol
You can find The Elbow Rooms on Park Street between the city centre/harbour area and the university. Park Street is famous for its cool shops and The Elbow Rooms fits right in.
Downstairs it has a couple of pool tables and plenty of cosy leather seating. Upstairs it has a small dance floor which is popular with people looking to rent a space for private parties.
It tends to be busy pretty much every night and the locals are friendly bohemian sorts. Just try not to get in the way of anyone playing pool.
I find the funniest beer to drink here is Korenwolf. This means Hamster in Dutch. I’ve had this beer in The Netherlands before but I’ve never seen it in the UK. It is a tasty, and expensive wheat beer. I love the picture on the front of the glass - it is of a tiny hamster eating some sort of barley twig. I love the clash between the macho, in English, wolf name and the little hamster on the front.
If you want a cheap night then Saturday night in the Elbow Rooms is great. The dance floor upstairs is free and it can often be an interesting night because private parties can use it up till 10:30pm. After 10:30 anyone can go in. So there is usually a good, drunk and friendly crowd already there. You aren’t even technically gate crashing because all private events end at 10:30. The drinks aren’t cheap but if you don’t want to get drunk and want free entrance somewhere fun then Saturday night at the Elbow Rooms is great.
