Bar Review: The Hatchet
The hatchet (www.thehatchet.co.uk) claims to be the oldest pub in Bristol established in 1606. It is certainly eclectic. It’s nestled in a side street behind the Bristol Hippodrome between offices, the Carling Academy music venue and some heavy metal, soul and gay clubs. This leads to an interesting mix of clientele.
The oldest and gothest pub in Bristol
At lunch times and after work it tends to fill up with office workers. Later on it is frequently packed out with goths and it is popular for the alternative gay scene. So if you are a gay goth who works in an office you have probably been there a few times.
Weekly events include quiz night on a Tuesday starting at 8:45, the winning team gets eight pints, and a free comedy night on Sunday starting at nine. The acts are local, the quality varies enormously but for the price of a pint it is value for money.
