Bristol Shopping

without comments

Bristol provides a wide range of shopping experiences which cater for almost any budget or taste.

Broadmead is central Bristol’s main shopping area

For the national chains, head for Broadmead, Bristol’s main shopping centre. Broadmead is currently going under a much needed facelift. Passing through Bristol’s main shopping area on the way to Temple Meads station you will find what can only be described as ground zero – a big hole of a development. This will soon be known as ‘Cabot Circus’, which will replace Broadmead.  It is to open in 2008 and it is being claimed to become the best place for shopping in the South West.  In the meantime the main chains in Broadmead are still open but if you require  wider choice the best place to head is The Mall in Cribbs Causeway, on the outskirts of Bristol where you will find a larger choice of national chains all under one roof.

Going through Bristol City Centre and up the hill to Clifton you will find Park Street. This is Bristol’s West End and is full of boutiques, jewellery shops, record shops and bars. The more independent shops reside here and the shopping experience in general is a lot more pleasant as the Bristol Harbourside lies at the bottom, and the museum and the University lies at the top. Carrying on further up the hill and just pass the University you will hit  the upmarket area of Clifton Village . There is a focus here on antiques, art, clothes shops and restaurants. This area is away from the hassle of Broadmead and Park Street and is popular with visitors for it’s location in the heart of Clifton and the nearby suspension bridge.

In the  older quarter of the City centre lies St Nicholas Market, which consists of a wide range of interesting stalls including second hand clothes and records. It also has arts and crafts every Friday and Saturday as well as the award winning  local farmers market every Wednesday.
