Q: Tell us about energisedperformance.com - what do you do? What courses do you run?
In 2004 I established Energised Performance - an inspiring and dynamic company offering personal training, sports massage, business coaching and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Energised has been developed to help people achieve their goals in life and feel really fit in mind and body. I work with many individuals from GP Referrals and mums, to business people and athletes. I also work with companies, offering employee wellbeing seminars and training days, currently my clients include BBC Bristol and Danone UK.
I run a variety of popular courses throughout the year, currently in Bristol only. These include: Ski Fit, Posture & Core Strength, Little Black Dress for Christmas & Triathlon for beginners. All our courses are 4-6 weeks and aim to develop a persons fitness, whilst encouraging a change in lifestyle to ensure the results are permanant. They also all include a in depth manual of useful information which clients can take with them. All our courses are known for the results and knowledge people gain as well as the fun they have.
We also run Energy Camps in Lucca, Italy which are always really popular and sold out months in advance!
Q: What kind of people usually come along to the courses and events? We have a wide range of people who come to the courses and events - as they are suitable for all ages and abilities. If someone has an injury we have the knowledge to be able to adapt the course to thier requirements. Over the summer we had some people in their early twenties, some with medical conditions and others competing at semi pro sport. However the general courses on average attract a mix of men and women between the age of 30-55. Obviously the more specialist areas are different Q: What is your background? How did you come to run a personal training company?I have been fortunate enough to always know that I wanted to run my own personal training and well being company. I am passionate about helping people improve thier quality of life, feel good about themselves and develop the confidence to do things they always have dreamed of. So since school and Higher ( I was brought up in Scotland mainly!) PE & Business I have been steadily progressing to this day - I have a Upper 2;1 BSc(Hons) degree with further training and specialist qualifications in Personal Training, Sports Massage & Injury Rehabilitation (Posture & Gait), Nutrition, Life Coaching and NLP.
The industry is very fast moving so it is important to always be learning to keep you knowledge refreshed - I am also passionate about my work so it is great to continually be updating my knowledge.
I have developed my company with the help of Business Link & Brave in Bristol and look forward to it growing and heping more people.
Personally - I have competed for the U21 Scottish three day event team (horse riding). Then I changed sports and went to Triathlon - and in 2005 competed at the World Age Group Championships in Hawaii - I now continue to race at triathlon as well as doing adventure races and crazy challanges! I am one of the Team Therapists for the GB Triathlon Team and have worked in Switzerland and Germany with them . I am passionate about sports, the outdoors and well being so the combination of it all is how I came to do what I do!
Q: You were recently voted personal trainer of the year. What is the secret of your success?
I was fortunate enough to win Personal Trainer of the Year in March this year - due to being nominated by the a team of girls I trained to race to the Magnetic Pole in the Artic, who were doing the Polar Challenge.
I believe success comes from being really passionate about what you do, having respect for your clients and a true desire to help them and setting clear, focused goals. It is also the ability to keep going, take risks and learn from challenges, and to always keep learning.
I also believe it is important to practise what you teach and take time out to reflect and spend quality time with family and friends.
