Guide to Stokes Croft, Bristol

A short walk from the city centre you will find Stokes Croft, a lively, colourful area famous for its Banksy graffiti. It is known locally as the cultural quarter although this might be more of an aspiration rather than a reality. As you walk along Cheltenham Road on to Gloucester Road you’ll notice the trendy cafes, bars and restaurants as well as the artistic graffiti and neon lighted massage parlours. You’re also as likely to bump in to a trendily dressed student as a local daytime drinker.

As you walk up Stokes Croft on to Cheltenham Road make sure you have a look at graffiti mural by local Bristol artist Banksy ‘Mild Mild West’ high up on the wall opposite the end of Dighton Street.

Perhaps you feel like a coffee? Cafe Kino is a cool local not for profit co-operative cafe located at number 3 ninetree hill just round the corner from the Banksy mural. It serves fairtrade food and drink, the coffee has been blended and roasted by Brian Wogan, as well as hosting cultural events such as story telling and exhibitions.

If you fancy going out at night to listen to live music and have a drink The Croft has live music almost every night. They have a policy of supporting new music of every style and nurturing local talent. Entry is free before 10pm Sunday to Thursday and there is usually a charge After 10pm or Friday and Saturday.
