Organic Food Festival Bristol
This weekend the Organic Food Festival, organised by locally based charity The Soil Association, set itself up down by the harbour. Over 350 organic producers set up stalls with plenty of free samples of cheese, wine, yoghurt and pretty much any organic foodstuff you can think of. Music was supplied on a couple of stages and roving performers wandered through the crowd. A fashion show highlighted the latest in organic fashion for children and adults. A children’s zone was dedicated to five to twelve year olds enabling them to conjure up their won organic recipes.
It was three pounds fifty to get which is the first year that I have had to pay an admission fee. It was noticably larger than previous years and there were plenty of free samples so it was worth the small price. The only problem was it was too popular. Absolutely packed so it was hard to get near some of the stalls. Next year they might need to expand it even more.
The highlight for me was Leigh Court Farm (www.leighcourtfarm.org.uk) a local organic farm who deliver boxes of fruit and veg to specific locations in Bristol for collection. They can also deliver to specific offices if 10 or more people all order. Seems like an easy way to get seasonal organic food. They also have a volunteer scheme where you can help out on the farm (http://www.leighcourtfarm.org.uk/page3/page3.html).
